Building Australia’s vanadium energy storage value chain
RVT Energy Pty Ltd (RVTe) is the wholly owned energy development subsidiary of Richmond Vanadium Technology Limited.
RVTe has been established as an Australian project development and coordination platform for vanadium flow battery and long-duration energy storage opportunities, extending RVT’s strategy beyond the development of the Richmond–Julia Creek Vanadium Project and into the downstream energy storage value chain.
Through RVT Energy, the Company is working to connect Australia’s vanadium resources with the growing need for long-duration energy storage, supporting a potential Australian value chain spanning vanadium supply, electrolyte processing, vanadium flow battery technology and energy storage deployment.
From mine to battery
RVT’s strategy is built around the opportunity to participate across more of the vanadium value chain.
The Richmond–Julia Creek Vanadium Project provides the potential upstream resource base, while RVT Energy provides a platform through which downstream vanadium battery and energy storage opportunities can be evaluated and developed.
The platform is focused on opportunities across:
- Vanadium flow battery deployment
- Long-duration energy storage
- Vanadium electrolyte processing pathways
- Downstream critical minerals development
- Australian mine-to-battery supply chains
- Broader energy transition applications.
This approach provides RVT with a pathway to participate in the potential future demand for vanadium created by large-scale stationary energy storage, while maintaining flexibility around how individual projects are structured and delivered.
Collaboration with RKP
RVT Energy is working with RKP Global Limited (RKP) under a binding Mine-to-Battery Collaboration & Project Development Agreement to evaluate and develop Australian vanadium flow battery and long-duration energy storage opportunities.
RKP is an established international vanadium flow battery and energy storage solutions provider with capabilities spanning vanadium electrolyte, battery stack manufacturing, system integration and the deployment of large-scale long-duration energy storage systems.
Under the collaboration framework, RVT Energy leads Australian market development, stakeholder engagement, project origination and project execution coordination for agreed projects, with RKP providing vanadium flow battery technology support, technical expertise, product supply capability and manufacturing support.
Together, the parties are evaluating opportunities to establish greater Australian capability across the vanadium battery value chain.
An Australian development platform
The RVT Energy model is designed to provide flexibility as Australia’s long-duration energy storage market develops.
Individual opportunities may be progressed through RVT Energy or through project-specific structures where commercially appropriate. This allows different project delivery, investment and financing models to be considered depending on the requirements of each opportunity.
The partnership also provides a framework to evaluate the future localisation of vanadium electrolyte production and downstream processing capability associated with the Richmond–Julia Creek Vanadium Project.
This creates a potential pathway from an Australian vanadium resource through to Australian energy storage infrastructure.
